Somatic Movement and Mindfulness with Erin Larsen

  • New Yoga Now 3131a Bull Street Savannah, GA, 31405 United States (map)

Somatic means "of the body," and this workshop is all about tuning into your body's image ability to heal itself, when given the adequate healing environment.

This two-day workshop will introduce you to the therapeutic benefits of Somatics. During the weekend you will learn how to incorporate these movements and practices into your yoga practice and daily life as well as learn how they help to pacify our nervous system. No prior experience necessary.

In this class you will remain on the floor and experience a sequence of sliding and gliding movements, undulations and poses that “wring” out your body. Moments of śavāsana are used to allow you time to check in with your body and notice the effects of the movements and poses. This non-forceful practice creates new pathways of perception, while connecting to our body’s somatic intelligence for healing and restoration. Some have described it as “luxurious” and “deeply nourishing.”

This workshop is open to all, beginners and experienced practitioners alike. Yoga teachers can earn 12 CEUs over the weekend and come away with short sequences to work into any yoga class- beginners to more challenging vinyasa style classes. As somatic movement is founded on the breath, undulations, rocking and pulsing movements follow the inhale and exhale creating a beautiful dance and movement that creates a sense of peace and calm in the body. This results in the parasympathetic nervous system being activated, and sets your body up to heal itself.

$200 entire weekend.

This workshop meets Saturday, 11/4 AND Sunday, 11/5 10-5 pm. There will be a 1-hour lunch break each day, and little breaks throughout. Practice and discussion format. Bring your mat, snacks, and water, and wear yoga clothes or comfortable, loose-fitting clothes.
